Stolen

She is smart, strong, skilled,

Respected but always sees

So much success surrounding

What she sees as so little;

Skeptical of the steps she has taken

And those sitting slightly ahead of her.

Her sprint becomes a saunter,

Unsure.

Insecure.

Certainly not to scale with society.

Second best if anything.

Unseen is her successes,

Her goals mistaken – eventually,

Her mind often misspoken.

Thoughts shooting so speedily.

Her own inconsistencies slow her

Progress to simplicity and focus.

Unable to stop the speculation and

Cynical suppositions seeping from outside.

On second thought, perhaps inside.

She must seek a mist of surrealism

To reset the expectations of reality.

A need to expose the disillusionment

She has experienced seduces her reason.

Sedation.

The start of disobedience entices.

No longer distraught but released

From the expected spotless surface.

Yet suddenly slipping away and

Grasping at a shattered past in a stream

Of isolation, splintered and suffocated

Because she’s still seeking answers.

The process begins to suture

The seams of two lives, one person

Seemingly resistant to oneself.

Stripped innocence serves as an unstable

Foundation to support survival.

A snake glides through unsuspecting times;

It slides lies to searching, listening ears.

Accidents so shockingly strike and

A life is stolen.
